Together, we can inspire ten million people to celebrate World Equality Month. Believe it. Our LGBTF community (of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Trans and Friends) is more powerful than you might imagine.
It all began because Sharon Love had a "crazy" dream to empower LGBT youth and save lives. The group was a tribute to her cousin, whom she had lost to suicide several years earlier. In her grief, she pledged to make a difference. She decided to create a place where youth from around the world could go for a sense of belonging and self-esteem, 24/7, year round. It took her seventeen attempts and thousands of hours of volunteer work in the LGBTF community before she was able to achieve her goal. "When I shared my dream to inspire millions, people laughed and said I was crazy," explains Love.
"Last March, they suddenly stopped laughing."
Last March, 2010, OUTstanding Lives.org made LGBTF history with our Facebook group, "I Bet We Can Find 1,000,000 People who Support Same-Sex Marriage". Launched as a hobby with no budget, last March, the group attracted over TWO million members in just over two weeks. The membership numbers skyrocketed:

“The day the group reached two million was one of the most exciting of my life,” enthuses Love. “Support was pouring in from all around the world, with comments such as:
“Marriage is a civil right.”
“I love my lesbian sister.”
“I’m straight, and I support same-sex marriage.”
“love is love.” and
“I want my gay son to be able to marry his wonderful boyfriend.”
People of all colours, shapes, sizes, ages, genders and sexual orientations nationalities, posted their support. Every time you clicked refresh, the wall completely changed, and the number of members increased by 10,000! Most of them straight supporters. People were counting down, saying it was better than New Years. I swear, when we hit two million, it felt like the earth moved. What an incredible outpouring of love!”
Today, the group is home to over 1,300 international discussions, over 1,300 pics, countless videos and thousands of wall posts supporting equality. It has empowered countless youth and saved lives. Launched as a volunteer project from Love's tiny basement apartment, OUTstanding Lives Network has not had any funding for further projects ...until now.
